"Nisei" means "The Second generation of Japanese-American".
So everyone speaks Japanese.
Here and there, it's like we're in Japan.
But we see the Star-Spangled Banner in the room. |

The ribbon lei are woven with two ribbons
one after the other.
Wool lei are knitted wool themselves using
some straws.
Umeno-san teaches us gradually
from easy one to difficult one. |

Umeno
Once, a woman came closer to Umeno-san.
She was struggling with the tangled wools.
|
|
|
They kept silent for a little while.
Then suddenly they burst out of laughing.
|
|
|
The wools were a terribly tangled.

|
My sisters and I were hanging on a laughing.
But the next moment, we laughed together.
Our heart was untangled.
And we relaxed.
|
|
|
Umeno-san said,
"Everyone is very pleased when I teach them."
Making leis connects our heart to heart.
