死をもって忠誠を示したヨーロッパ戦線。
アメリカの軍事史上、最も多くの勲章を受けた。
ハワイ全体の戦死者8割が日系人だった。
Many Japanese-American had showed
the truth of their loyalty with their lives
at the Europe battle line.
Their brave deeds brought them the most of medals
in the history of American military.
Eighty percent of the war dead
in Hawaii was Japanese-American.

マウイのツアーガイドをされていた。
Umeno-san's sister who is Toshiko-san worked as a tour conductor on Maui. |

「お客さんは私の顔を見て、
日本のどこから来たかよく聞かれたよ。
ハワイで生まれたと言うと、みんな驚くよ」
"Japanese visitors often asked me where
I came from but they really surprised
when they heard that I was born in Hawaii."
She also speaks the fluent Japanese.

「毎週、Sundayの1時から
カフルイ・エレメンタリースクール（小学校）で
練習してる。良かったら来てみたらいい。」
"We practice on the harmonica every Sunday
at the Kahului elementary school.
You can come and join us if you like." |

最高齢のおばあちゃんは92歳
The eldest player is ninety-two years old!!

二種類のハーモニカを
持ち替えながら演奏。
They played American,
Hawaiian, and Japanese songs.
How wonderful their were!
While they were playing,
they used two harmonicas changing
one after the other. |

It was sung in Japanese.

「みんな喜ぶよ」
一ヶ月先の訪問スケジュールが埋まっている
そのほとんどが人を喜ばせるための予定。
それが自分の楽しみでもある。
"Everyone has delighted."
A close friendship connects
and open our hearts each other.
Their schedules have filled
until next month for friends.
Almost everything was the schedule
of pleasing people and
that is a pleasure of themselves.

The life is yours to live
no matter how old you get.
We learned how to make an annual ring
from their pure behavior.

おばあちゃんも大勢いらした。
Many Japanese-American
were there living in senior house. |

はじめて会った私たちを
懐かしそうな顔で見ている。
「どこから来たの？」
「北海道です」
「私、広島」
広島の方が多い。
「こっちに来ても戦争、あっちでも戦争」
パールハーバーの奇襲攻撃と
広島の原子爆弾。
一番話したいことなのだと感じた。
「原爆で親戚も知っている人も
たくさん死にました。
戦争はダメ。絶対に」 |

They have seen us with a nostalgia even thought it was our first meeting.
"Where are you from?"
A woman asked me in fluent Japanese.
"I'm from Hokkaido in Japan."
"I was born in Hiroshima."
It seemed that here are many people from Hiroshima.
"The war in here and over there."
Pearl Harbor by surprise attack and the atom bomb to Hiroshima.
I understood what she really wants to tell me through this conversation.
"Many relatives and friends
had died with the atom bomb.
No more war, never."

時が経ち語られることが
少なくなる
大切なメッセージ。
残したいと
強く思った。
As time went on,
the important message decreases.
I strongly thought that I want to leave
this message to the future. |

私の瞳に
おじいちゃん、
おばあちゃんの
お父さん、
お母さんが
写っていたのかもしれない。
Perhaps I was seeing
her father and mother
at the same time I looked at her.

|
そこに居たのは
幼い日の
あなただった
少し潤んだ瞳は
小さな子供のように輝いている。
And there were you in your childhood.
Her eyes were misted and shining like a little child.
