毎週土曜日の午前中に開かれる
青空マーケット。
ご夫婦で出店されることもある。
The market of the blue sky opens
every Saturday morning.
This couple also opens their shop
at the market very often. |

Flowers of Hawaii,
vegetables and fruits,

地元の人も
観光客も
大勢やって来る。
There, visitors and locals
are coming and going.

そして
「晴れたら、海にオゴ、採りにいきましょう」
Then Umeno-san said,
"Let's go to the beach and we'll pick a lot of Ogo
when it'll be fine tomorrow."

オゴって・・・魚？貝？
緑色の海藻が打ち上げられた海岸
“オゴ”って何だ？
-Ogo? Hmmm... is that a fish or shellfish?-
Here we are the beach where the so many green seaweeds are piled up.
-What's the Ogo?- |

それは、赤紫色の海藻だった。
Yes. It's the red colored seaweeds. |
|

「はじめに、熱湯をかけて、
すぐに酢をかける。
そして砂糖、醤油であえるの｣
Umenoさんが教えてくれた。
"First, we put hot water on Ogo
then put a littie vinegar right away.
And mix the Ogo with the sugar and soy sauce."
Umeno-san taught us a recipe.

聞いただけで美味しそうな
日本の味、三杯酢。
Sounded very good and it was.
It tasted like a Japanese "San bay zu". |

二つの文化の間で育った。
She has grown up between
the American culture and the Japanese culture.

「Girlの時、学校が終わったら、
毎日、日本人学校に通った。
そこで、日本語、日本の歌を覚えた」
本当に素晴らしい教育力
二世のおじいちゃん、
おばあちゃんは
英語はもちろん
日本語も話す。
"When I was girl, when I finished the regular school,
I went to the Japanese school everyday.
And I learned how to speak Japanese
and a lot of Japanese songs."
I really thought that the education of Issei
was wonderful.
Grandma and grandpa,
"The Nisei, can speak Japanese
and off course the English.

Mr.＆ Mrs. Toyama が結婚され、
Umenoさんは英語ができないHirotadaさんに
「黙って顔見てないで、何か話しなさい！」と
言い続けた。
そして、お二人の結婚写真を
嬉しそうに見せてくれた。
"Stop looking at my face and You speak in English!"
That's I heard that Umeno-san kept on saying to Hirotada-san.
When they got married, he couldn't speak English.
And she showed us the wedding picture happily.

「マウイで魚釣りやりましたか？」
One day, Hirotada-san asked us.
"Have you ever been to the fishing on Maui?" |

Umenoさんの運転で海へ。
いつも一緒のご夫婦。
Umeno-san drove for us.
This couple is always together. |

マウイには色々な海岸がある。
The Maui Island has many beaches. |

サーフィンの上級者向け、
ビギナー向けの海岸。
小さい子供も楽しめる浅瀬。
For advanced surfers,
for beginners,
and that beach is perfect for children
to enjoy the shoal.

風を受ける海岸ではウインド・サーフィン。
ある海岸ではカヌーのチームが
早朝に練習をしている。
The window surfing is good
for a blowing beach.
Certain beaches is used
by some canoe teams
for their practicing in the early morning.

魚が釣れる海岸もある。
We have been to the Ogo beach
the other day

いつしか
私たちの別れの言葉は
「また会います」に
なっていた。
